Windows Integration Specialist
In 1984, the year of the first Macintosh, Gerry bought his first computer, a Commodore 64. After learning its BASIC programming language, the first thing he did was build a character generator for the classic role-playing game Dungeons and Dragons.
Gerry’s fascination with computers continued throughout his 24 years in the Canadian Forces, where he served with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. Retiring here in Victoria B.C. in 1999, he turned his attention to adopting, learning, and working with Macs full-time. Gerry honed his understanding and competency with Apple products while working at the original Byte Computers, and followed that with two years operating CSB Computer Services alongside several other partners. Today he runs his own Mac and Windows integration business, SledgeHammer Solutions.
As our resident Windows specialist, Gerry holds an MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) certification from Royal Roads University. He is considered one of Victoria's top Windows Enterprise Specialists with over 25 years of experience in providing Microsoft Windows computing infrastructure for high-end residences and businesses. His services provide complete support for the Windows platform to Mac Zen clients, whose computing environments are predominantly Apple-based. He’s also a highly skilled FileMaker Pro designer, with his first commercial database still working smoothly after a venerable 15 years of service.
Gerry has had a lifelong passion for "taking things apart and putting them back together, sometimes in new ways.” When he’s not disassembling something important, he enjoys spending time with his large extended family.
